The origin of the Benedictine monastery was founded by Abbot Bonitus at 812. At that time the site was known as "Baniola" that led to the present name of the city. ● The primitive Romanesque monastery is the end of the garden wall in opus spicatum and little else. ● The building is essentially cloisters including neoclassical style is Gothic facade though. ● Inside you will find the chest of Sant Martirià and the Altarpiece of Our Lady of the scale among other things.
